    Takahisha,Mioko

    Mioko Takahisha~ Reina_Kasuga

"If you think you can or you think you can't... You're probably right"

    -General Information-

    Name: Mioko Takahisha

    Nickname: Mio, Mimi

    Gender: Female

    Age: 19

    Appearance/Clothing.

Mioko has long, dark hair, which is a shade of brown naturally but appears almost purple or burgundy in some lights. She has dark blue eyes; however she often covers her left eye with her fringe, as she is completely blind in that eye. Her left “eye” is made of glass, and so in certain lights reflects oddly. Therefore, Mioko often either tries to keep the eye hidden, or stays in shaded areas.

When she is not on duty as an ANBU, Mioko wears clothes that may make her seem like a student or a young school teacher – long-sleeved shirts, v-neck jumpers and modest skirts with tights underneath. Beneath the skirts, and over the tights, Mioko always wears comfortable shorts, in case she ever needs to act quickly and doesn’t have time to change.

Whilst on duty as an ANBU, Mioko wears dark, knee-length leggings, knee-high, fitted black leather boots and a fur-lined brown aviators jacket over a fitted round-neck black t-shirt. Strapped on her back she carries two curved swords.

Whatever the occasion, she always wears a small pendant shaped like an owl, and is extremely protective of it.

    Personality:

Mioko is fiercely loyal to those she cares about, but will generally avoid fighting if possible, even if that means not being able to protect someone she cares for. Often described as “lazy”, Mioko appears at first to be a very uncaring and rather unpleasant person; she is stubborn, sarcastic, grumpy and a hypocrite. However, when she finds the energy – or when she’s around people she genuinely cares about and/or respects – she is more amiable; smiling, joking and teasing others around her. She often appears takes the role of an older sister figure to others.

Nearly always tired, Mioko can often be caught staring off into space, and can be very unobservant about what is going on around her, which often gives her the appearance of being clumsy, as she won’t notice when she drops things or people walk into her etc. She is often very blunt, and so can end up hurting people’s feelings without realising or meaning to.

Possessing a very weak body, and below average strength, Mioko often found herself having to rely on others when she was younger. As a result, she is very defensive and often asserts her independence and autonomy; she dislikes having to be helped because she is unable to do something due to her weak body.

"All I need is the power to be able to protect my comrades. So long as I can have the strength to do that, I don't care if I'm weaker than everyone in the world."

    History:

Mioko was born on a small rice farm in a near the border of a small country, where she spent the first few years of her life living peacefully with her parents and older brother, only hearing about Hidden Villages and Shinobi through bedtime stories her parents told her. As soon as she could walk, she would play “ninja” with her older brother, the two of them dressing up and running around the paddy fields while their mother watched on lovingly. Unfortunately, when she was three, Mioko caught pneumonia after getting lost in the forest behind her family’s farm overnight. Being so young, and already susceptible to mild colds and the flu, she was in serious danger of losing her life. Multiple doctors were called, and eventually she pulled through, but she was bedridden for weeks after. She spent a lot of her time sleeping and when awake her brother would read stories to her or sing her songs. Eventually, she was well enough to behave normally again, but the pneumonia had left her with a very weak body, and even at that young age she was unable to do things she had been able to do so before.

As they grew, Mioko’s brother often went to play with other children of the village, but due to her weak body Mioko was often left behind. As a result, the relationship between Mioko and her brother – which had been very close before – began to decline, as she saw less of him and felt like she was being sidelined due to her weak body. Mioko began to be more introverted, sitting in the shade and reading at the porch of their house. It was because of this that she saw what her brother had never noticed; the growing alienisms in their parents relationship. It became a common sight for Mioko to see her father slapping, punching or otherwise harming her mother. She also got used to hearing her mother being shouted and called derogatory names. As such, it was no surprise to her when her mother suddenly disappeared after a loud argument when Mioko was six years old. The same morning she disappeared, her father was arrested, and Mioko and her brother were sent to live with an elderly woman in the village near their farm. Being a few years older than her, physically healthy and the elder sibling, Mioko’s brother was told what had occurred, and passed the story down to Mioko in an abridged form: in short, their mother had had a fight with their father and “gone away”. Their father was being asked about why she went right then. They were staying with “Auntie” until then. Mioko was still far too young and naïve to translate the euphemism of “gone away” to death, and so asked her brother every night when her parents would come home. It ended with her staying awake through the night waiting for her mother to come back for them, and she quickly formed this into a habit, struggling to sleep after dark.

Soon it became apparent that the two siblings were little more than orphans, with their father on an indefinite sentence in prison and their mother “away” permanently. A relative, who lived a fair few days travel away, offered to take in Mioko’s brother, but refused to care for Mioko on the grounds that they were limited on space and “didn’t think they were suited to caring for such a sickly child”. Again, Mioko found herself pushed aside because of her weak body. Then, just as it seemed certain that Mioko was going to be separated from all family and familiarity at the age of six, her grandfather arrived at the village on his yearly visit. A wandering swordsman, the village elders immediately disapproved of his suggestion of taking on the children. Hearing of the situation with the other relatives asking to only take Mioko’s brother, their grandfather suggested that the brother went to live with the other relatives, and Mioko went with her grandfather. This was again argued over, this time on the sake of Mioko’s poor health and weak body. Mioko’s grandfather turned and looked at the small girl critically, before saying that she looked strong enough for me. When the village doctor disputed this, he stubbornly replied,

“Her body will only get worse if you keep sheltering her like this. Besides, it’s not the body that matters. It’s if you have a strong heart.”

Mioko took these words to heart, delighted to have found someone who saw her for more than her weak body, and who recognised the strength within her rather than stopping at the frail body she possessed. So she went to live with her grandfather, which meant travelling around the countries. Mioko began to learn how to use a sword from her grandfather, who was a master. He was a fair teacher concerning the fact she was weaker then most her age, but he always pushed her to her limit, encouraging her to always put her whole heart, soul and being into everything she did. She became more stubborn when people tried to do things for her because of her frail body. However, she never got out of the habit of staying awake at night and, as they trained and travelled during the day, it quickly turned into exhausting insomnia.

After two years of living a nomadic life, Mioko – now aged eight – and her grandfather arrived at Suishougakure. Mioko had met other wandering swordsmen and women of all ages and skills on her travels with her grandfather, fighting some, watching and joining in as her grandfather trained other kenjutsu users. But she had only met ninja once before, when she had accidently been separated from her grandfather in a deep forest and stumbled across their campsite. All things considered, they had been very friendly and led her back to her grandfather, giving her a favourable first impression. In Suishougakure, Mioko met Ramia Mishima, who she became fast friends with. When she left the village, three days later, he gave her an owl-shaped pendant, which she wore continuously. Two years later, she returned to Suishougakure, aged ten, and entered the Ninja Academy, training to become stronger; mainly she was influenced by the ninja she had met in the forest those years before, but she also hoped to meet Ramia again, as he had confided to her that he was also aspiring to become a shinobi. She was already strong in kenjutsu, and her grandfather gave her two curved katana as a parting gift when she joined the village, but she was still weaker in body than other around her, and struggled with any taijutsu or physical violence. It was during this period that she began to work in the village hospital, training in healing, which she had a natural affinity for. She quickly rose up the ranks to ANBU Captain, pledging her allegiance to her Kage.

"It’s not the body that matters. It’s if you have a strong heart.”
